Welcome reception for international students at University of Passau.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) awards the DAAD Prize to honour international students’ exceptional academic achievements and remarkable social and intercultural engagements. This year, the Prize is awarded to Ada Čizmić from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Ms Čizmić distinguished herself not just with her academic results, but also with her civic and intercultural accomplishments. On top of studying towards an undergraduate double degree (B.A.) in Governance and Public Policy - International Relations at the University of Passau and the University of Ljubljana, she volunteers as a Project Assistant in the Muslim Student Association Passau. In addition, she has been teaching German language classes for refugees as part of a project run by the Evangelische Studierendengemeinde – ESG (Protestant Student Group). She also demonstrated her engagement through

  • membership in the Amnesty International Passau student society
  • working as a tutor for international students at the University of Ljubljana (2019-2020)
  • being the city of Bihać‘s coordinator for The Association of Secondary School Students in Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • working for the Red Cross in Bihać (2018-2019)
  • taking part in AFS Intercultural Programs in Bosnia and Herzegovina (2018-2019)

254 international exchange students from 28 countries

254 students from 28 countries are joining the University of Passau as part of a study exchange or to study on a double degree programme this winter semester (2022/23). Many students are joining us from France, Tunisia and Italy in particular. These figures don’t include all those international students and doctoral researchers who come to Passau via scholarships from the DAAD and other organisations, or who are joining the University as regular degree-seeking students.

The reception is part of the extended international orientation weeks which run from 29 September to 16 October. The University arranges these events especially for international students, offering a programme that includes German language classes as well as campus and library tours in German and English. Furthermore, students can get to know our region and people by joining activities including a Quidditch match, pub crawls, group hikes and a board game evening.
