University President Carola Jungwirth said: 'We see this ranking result – which puts us among the 30 best young universities worldwide – as a birthday gift, as the University of Passau turns 40 this year. During the coming weekend's festivities on that occasion, we will also be celebrating the fact that we are within the top 10 percent of the THE Young University Ranking'. For the University of Passau, this was the first time it participated in the Young University category. She added: 'But right after the weekend we will get right back to work, because both of these ranking successes are at the same time an obligation for the future: We fully intend to keep the good ranking and move forward!"
The Times Higher Education Rankings are among the most influential worldwide university league tables and only include excellent universities. The Young University Ranking compares data from the areas of research output, teaching, knowledge transfer and aspects of international outlook and reputation. While some of the data are provided by the participating universities themselves, others – such as research, which is measured on published articles – are collected by THE via specialised databases. Other data were collected on the basis of a THE survey of academics and scientists, predominantly in the English-speaking world.
