AI meets vhb

As part of the "KI meets vhb" special funding initiative of the Virtual University of Bavaria (vhb), the Professorship for Legal Informatics, esp. Natural Language Processing (Prof. Dr. Nora Nahr) and the Professorship for Public Law (Prof. Dr. Urs Kramer) investigated the use of AI tools in online legal education from October 1, 2024, to June 30, 2026. The project team focused primarily on developing a chatbot hosted at the University of Passau. Several application scenarios were devised in this context, and a chatbot designed to generate review questions was tested experimentally.

The findings were presented on an ongoing basis at conferences and symposia, including a conference at the Faculty of Law of the University of Banja Luka (Bosnia and Herzegovina) in September 2025 and the 6th International and Interdisciplinary Symposium "From Statutes to Algorithms: AI in Legal Education" in Salzburg (Austria) in November 2025. In May 2026, Prof. Dr. Nora Nahr and Prof. Dr. Urs Kramer also gave a presentation at the conference "Legal Education in Europe and Estonia in Light of the Digital Future" at Tallinn University (Estonia), outlining the project's results and discussing opportunities for AI to support and enhance teaching. The project concluded in June 2026 with a presentation at the final "AI meets vhb" conference in Bamberg.
