On Monday, January 19, 2026, our guest speaker Mr. Roll (Chief Commercial Officer at MIC Customs Solutions) discussed with LL.M. Legal Informatics students how a successful digital transformation can facilitate global trade environments. The presentation was titled "How can digital transformation facilitate global trade in today's volatile environment?".
As a provider of global customs and trade compliance software solutions, MIC Customs Solutions shared valuable, practical insights on designing and managing free trade agreements during digital transformation processes, thus complementing the topics of our information systems lecture from a practical perspective.
Following a thematic introduction by Prof. Dr. Christoph Herrmann (Chair of Constitutional and Administrative, European Law, European and International Economic Law at the University of Passau), Mr. Roll addressed the relevance of digital solutions for current challenges in global trade in his presentation.
During his talk, our guest speaker discussed the design of related management processes and illustrated how the MIC GTM Solution software's system components contribute to the automation of global trading processes. The students learned how software development and artificial intelligence techniques can address challenges related to customs clearance, tariff classification, and export control. They actively participated in the discussion by asking questions and sharing their ideas and own experiences related to this topic.
